Welcome to Everybody Rides
An Introduction to Everybody Rides New York
Who We Are
EVERYBODY RIDES NEW YORK, INC. — a registered 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization — has been associated with PATH International since 1987 and provides professional services through PATH certified Centers/Stables.
We work to make scholarships available to qualified clients so they may receive low cost/no cost services through an Equine Therapeutic Riding Program and an Adaptive Riding Program.
These programs are designed to promote individual well-being and an enhanced quality of life for persons (young and old) that are physically, mentally, emotionally, developmentally and learning disabled — as well as those with economic, social, and cultural disadvantages.
<Note: Scholarships are based on availability and financial need. Please contact us for further details.
Therapeutic Riding Program:
Therapeutic Riding focuses on ability, rather than disability. Carried out under the direction of Certified Instructors, health benefits are derived because the rhythmic motion of the horse, when walking, simulates the natural hip and thigh movements people experience when walking. This naturally improves physical strength, posture, balance, and muscle tone. Also enhanced is increased mobility, speech and range of motion, all precursors to maximizing independence for individuals with disabilities.
Interacting with and directing a horse, whether mounted or from the ground, is a rewarding feat. Clients are seen in a “barn setting” that provides them with opportunities to engage in social interaction, physical exercise, and learning opportunities that allow for increased participant self-confidence and self-esteem.
Adaptive Riding Program:
Adaptive (recreational) riding utilizes on and off horse activities to positively contribute to the cognitive, physical, and emotional well-being of non-disabled individuals and seniors. Horsemanship activities provide students with physical and cognitive challenges, encouraging improvement in flexibility; balance; muscle strength; attention span; and the ability to follow multi-step directions.
There are also therapeutic benefits. Horseback-riding often improves a client’s quality of life by providing them with an opportunity to bond with their horse, instructor, side walkers, and peers. For students with limited mobility or difficulty connecting with others, adaptive riding offers a chance to participate in a sport and connect with others via a shared interest/activity.

When the application is approved, our program manager will contact participants for an intake. Once the medical authorization is signed and in place, participants will be scheduled for a pre-riding assessment at the certified stables nearest them.
Note: Medical authorization applies to the Therapeutic Riding Program only — as the Adaptive Riding Program requires an individual/ or guardian’s approval and a signed release regarding liability.
There, they will meet their instructor, the horse, and the volunteers that will work with them. Personalized lesson goals will be discussed at that time. Thereafter, riders will be registered for a session that consists of weekly semi-private lessons for 6-8 weeks.

We are a funder of riding programs, but we do not own any horses, nor a stable of our own. It is our mission to help those who cannot pay for sessions.
